About the Senior Pet Project
Currently in its fourth year, the Senior Pet Project aims to raise awareness and funds for the lost and abandoned senior pets who arrive at Sydney Dogs & Cats Home.
Every year, dozens of dogs and cats aged eight years or older arrive on our doorstep hoping to be reunited with their families or find new homes. They have so much love and companionship to give, and yet, senior pets often go unclaimed and find it more difficult to find new homes.
More often than not, senior pets have health concerns caused by age, or in some cases, years of neglect. These pets require extra veterinary attention including exploratory tests, medication and surgery. This means they spend prolonged periods in our care before they are ready to find a new family, and officially retire.
At Sydney Dogs & Cats Home, we don’t let age hold an animal back, and from what we've seen, neither do they! We strive to give every healthy and treatable pet their happily-ever-after, even if it’s a comfortable few years, months or even days in palliative care.
To keep this commitment to the senior pets in our care, we rely on donations to our Senior Pet Project, which funds veterinary care including pathology, scans, surgeries and medication. In 2021, we need to raise $32,000 to sustain the Senior Pet Project in the months ahead.
Please donate today to give senior pets the care they need and the retirement they deserve.
